Honourable Iris Evans (Minister of Alberta Finance and Enterprise) - Special Article

Alberta, moving forward during the recession

Just like all provinces and most places around the world, the global recession has hit Alberta. The result has been a slowing of the economy; in fact, last year Alberta’s economy contracted by 0.2 per cent, and it is forecast that this year it will contract by two per cent.

As Alberta moves forward during this time of economic uncertainty, efforts will be doubled to make sure the environment is right for economic growth to return to Alberta. This will be achieved by focusing on four broad areas.

• Keeping a close eye on government spending;
• Drawing on our savings to protect public programs and services;
• Investing in public infrastructure to support jobs and the economy; and
• Promoting Alberta to a global market.

Brian Buffini (CEO & Founder of Buffini & Company) - A Special Article

A recession is a terrible thing to waste

When I first joined the real estate business in San Diego over 20 years ago, the traditional lead-generation methods of cold-calling, door-knocking, etc. didn’t seem to fit with my personal philosophy on how to treat people. Working in the family business in Ireland, we relied on referred business and the work had to speak for itself. At the end of each day, my grandfather would inspect the jobsite and ask the golden question: “Can you put your name to that?” If you couldn’t, you had to do it over. It seemed to me that working in the real estate business should have the very same goal; to exceed customer’s expectations in such a way that they exceeded yours and sent you business.

This approach ultimately helped me become one of the top Realtors in the U.S. I was able to generate 30-40 referrals a month because I took this philosophy and systemized it to provide first-class service and value to my core clients.

Growth in the Far North – Waterfront Development takes off in Whitehorse, Yukon

With a population of just over 25,000 people, the highest in its history, the City of Whitehorse is looking toward the future with the goal of sustainable growth that includes a variety of business opportunities and housing options for its residents. One such opportunity is the Motorways development, located on the Whitehorse waterfront.

Along with the creation of new housing subdivisions to accommodate its growth, increased government funding has led to the expansion of the city’s international airport, construction of a new correctional centre, and several projects along the city’s waterfront as well as several roadwork projects.

The Social Media Club, care to join?

There is a new wave of communication powering through the world, some call this web 2.0 while others call it the not so secret social media club. Membership has no limitations and the possibilities are endless. The second generation of this thing we call the World Wide Web (www) is cruising at full speed and I suggest you join the ride. Some fear social media while others embrace its greatness and enjoy the benefits. Depending on the individual will dictate the use. Some fancy easy communication with friends, picture sharing and an opportunity to showcase their podcast creations. Others enjoy reading countless blogs and absorbing the fascinating opinions of today’s Web 2.0 authors. I, on the other hand use this powerful tool to “stay on the radar” with friends, family and colleagues. Whether it is for personal or business use, social media is an outstanding way to keep in contact. Especially for someone like me who works ridiculous hours and picking up the phone to touch base isn’t as easy as one would think.

News1130 is Vancouver's only official radio station of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Tune-in to News1130 for all your Olympic news and information for Team Coverage, Breaking News and what's Happening Now as we journey along the road to the winter Olympics. The News1130 reporters will be granted exclusive access to be on-location and in-venue at the 2010 games as well as first-hand interviews with athletes moments after they cross the finish line.

This exciting opportunity is few and far between for News1130 as well as for businesses that would like to be associated with this Olympic experience. Your company’s message will be heard locally on the radio and internationally as we have listeners tuning in from all over the world through our live online streaming available on News1130.com.

Did you know? News1130 listeners are 47 percent more likely than the average Vancouver population to invest in real estate. Also, over 37,900 News1130 listeners own a second recreational property.

In such a competitive real estate market and a changing economy, it becomes more and more difficult for companies to differentiate themselves from so many others. A vast majority uses print and flyers. Not many are using radio to sell themselves in the Lower Mainland. The radio market is relatively untapped. Busy professionals and business people are spending less and less time reading newspapers.

With a well-written radio on-air commercial, you can raise your profile, establish yourself as an expert in the industry and make your name very well-known which will in turn equate to traction and sales.

News1130
leads the market in Lower Mainland listenership, reaching the real estate investor, professional community and higher house hold demographic. We have tremendous credibility in the market place as the only all-news station

Please feel free to contact us at anytime to discuss how an advertising campaign on our "All News" radio station can help tremendously with your business.
